           Meetup: Bellevue Bicycling in Warm Places Event
Tour Details:
     Bellevue Bicycling in Warm Places. Pedal with us this January in warm weather and explore the remote east coast of Taiwan, Republic of China. We will ride through stunning scenery and get a taste of a modern Chinese city in Taipei. This tour could be a great anchor to a more extensive trip to China mainland, Hong Kong, or other parts of Asia. Paul will lead the tour; he has pedaled this route, before, and has lived in Taiwan.

     From the Mercer Island Community Center we cross the I-90 Bike Trail to Seattle and go north along Lake Washington to the University District and Fremont. From Fremont we continue west to Magnolia where we turn south through downtown Seattle. Here we turn east again back to Mercer Island.
     Bring snacks for during the ride. Mid ride breaks will be in Fremont and/or downtown Seattle.

     The route goes north from the park, then turns east over I-405 heading straight uphill and through the Maple Valley. Mid route break will be Squak Mountain Park so bring snacks with you since you will be in the wilderness. From here the route swings around and goes south downhill to the Cedar River Trail and back to our start.

     Gasworks Park to Lake Forest Park and back is a good route for a rainy winter day when you want to get a little exercise, but don't want to be riding out with traffic.
     Mid ride break will be at Great Harvest Bread at Lake Forest Park Towne Center. If it doesn't rain and the weather is good, route can be expanded by group demand.

     Mid ride break will be at Petosa's Family Grocery on 5th Avenue in Edmonds. For riders not wanting quite so challenging a ride, you can cut through Ballard and skip Blue Ridge rejoining the group coming into Edmonds.

     Starting from Mercer Island we will go west to Alki Beach via the SoDo District. After a stop at Alki Bakery for nourishment and socializing we will ride south to Lincoln Park where the route turns east uphill and across West Seattle to to the First Avenue South Bridge to Georgetown. From here the route continues northeast over Beacon Hill to the I-90 Bike Trail and home.
     Mid ride break will be at the Alki Bakery.
     If weather is questionable, contact ride leader for ride status. Route has two significant climbs, over West Seattle and Beacon Hill. Anyone wanting to skip the hill climbs can ride back the traditional route through the International District saving six miles.

     From the Cascade listing: Why not bring that special someone on Valentines Day for a friendly ride ending at one of our local breweries/brewpubs, Fred's Rivertown Alehouse in Snohomish . Though Fred's doesn't brew their own beer, they offer a great selection of beer on tap as well as good food and service. This ride will be at a high-leisurely low-steady pace (11-13 MPH MAX ON THE FLATS!!!). Quick midpoint break with some chocolate Valentines to keep us energized!

     Join Norm Tjaden on his yearly quest to see the only Pan Asian Museum in the country. Third Saturdays are free admission so your only cost will be the energy to get there and your lunch in the International District.
     First stop will be the museum where we will spend 30 minutes to view the exhibits (you can spend longer if you like). Then we will head to a local establishment for nourishment and socializing before returning to Gasworks Park. Be sure to bring a secure lock for your bicycle.
     This is a Cascade Bicycle Club ride but all SBC members are invited for this very special event.

Ride Start: Logboom Park, Kenmore, WA - Map/Directions.

     This is the club's first attempt at this ride so it is sure to be a fun with plenty of adventure.

March 7th, Sunday, Mercer Island Bellevue Loop
Ride Start: Community Center, Mercer Island, WA - Map/Directions.
Meet: 9:30am for 10am start.
Bellevue's Weowna Park. Levels: Social and Intermediate.
Ride Distance: 30/35 Miles.
Ride Terrain: Mixed Interurban.

Ride Details:
     Starting from the Mercer Island Community Center, members will have two options, either the Bellevue Scenic or Bellevue Shoreline Loop. Each loop follows very closely to the same route, except that the Bellevue Shoreline Loop takes in the steep hill climbs into Medina and goes clockwise around Bellevue. The Scenic Loop takes an easier route following the east side of the Mercer Slough and goes counterclockwise.
     Both routes are on lightly traveled roads or good bike lanes and have ample scenery. Both routes have limited access to cafes or stores along the route. Thus it is encouraged that members bring snacks with them for mid ride breaks as well as full water bottles.
     Final route selection will be made by members on ride day so group preferences and weather can be used in decision.

     This week's ride is on very scenic rural roads along the Snoqualmie and Tolt Rivers.
     There are several options for riders to select from. The basic route is a 26 mile Carnation to Duvall loop which can be enhanced with an out and back ride along the Tolt River (8.5 mi) and a loop around Joy Lake (6 mi). Thus, you can ride as much or as little as you want.
     Along with this we will have a 20 mile trail ride option from Carnation to Duvall and back on the the scenic Snoqualmie Valley Regional Trail. The trail is hard packed dirt recommended for cross or mountain bikes but can easily be done with a regular road bike as well.
     The major mid way lunch stop for all groups will be in Duvall. Riders can either pack a lunch, purchase lunch at a local establishment in Duvall or purchase something to carry with you from the Carnation QFC near the start point.

     Bring snacks with you for mid ride breaks and lunch. Coffee stop in Kirkland for anyone wanting a nice warm cup of coffee. Additional coffee stop on Mercer Island with rider demand.

April 18th, Sunday, Redhook - Duvall - Tolt Pipeline Trail
Ride Start: Redhook Brewery, Woodinville, WA - Map/Directions.

     This is a new route taking riders through rural scenic North King County from the Redhook Brewery to Duvall. There will be two options, 28 miles all on country roads or 22 miles mostly on the Tolt Pipeline and Snoqualmie River Valley Trails.
     The trail option is on hard packed dirt trail designed for mountain or cross bicycles. Both options have some hill climbs. Both groups will meet in Duvall for mid way break and socializing together.
     After ride socializing and fun will be at the Redhook Brewery.

     Starting at Gasworks Park we will bike west through the Ballard Locks to Magnolia Bluff to check out views of Puget Sound.
     From here using the downtown Seattle Bike Trail through the Olympic Sculpture Garden we will bike to West Seattle's Alki Beach. After stopping at the Alki Bakery for mid ride break, we will return along the Seattle Waterfront.
     If weather is nice bring snacks for mid ride picnic on the beach. Can add more mileage to this ride with rider demand.

May 2nd, Sunday, Green River/Interurban/Foothills Trails
Ride Start: Tukwila Communicty Center, Tukwila, WA - Map/Directions.
Meet: 9:30am for 10am start.

Ride Terrain: Mostly Flat Trail.

     Starting from the Tukwila Community Center we will ride to Orting via the Green River, Interurban and Foothills Trails.
     For those not wanting to go the whole 68 miles, you can designate Auburn as your mid ride stop point which gives you a nice 38 mile ride and plenty of nice establishments for nourishment and socializing. For those going the whole distance the mid ride point is in Orting. Anyone that wants more than 68 miles can ride to trail end at South Prairie which will give you ~85 miles.
     Be sure to bring plenty of fluids and snacks with you for the ride as there are not any easy stops to purchase anything on the trail.

May 8th, Saturday, Tolt-MacDonald Park - Off-Road
Ride Start: Tolt-MacDonald Park, Carnation, WA - Map/Directions.
Meet: 12:00 - Noon.
MacDonald Park Suspension Bridge. Ride Terrain: Off-road - Single Track.

     Enjoy a quick get-out-of-town experience without straying too far! King County Parks' Tolt-MacDonald Park, located in Carnation, just 40 minutes from downtown Seattle and a short drive from Redmond, offers a true recreation destination.
     The 574-acre park sprawls across the floodplain of the confluence of the Snoqualmie and Tolt rivers. It has broad lawns and views of the Cascades, with a 500-foot-long suspension footbridge that spans the Snoqualmie River and leads to forested trails.
     Meet at the suspension bridge for a 12:00 start. Mountain Bikes only. It's about a 3/4 mile uphill push at the start and then flat single track up top. For a park trails map, click here. For park information, click here.

May 9th, Sunday, Fall City - Snoqualmie Falls - North Bend
Ride Start: Quigley Park, Fall City, WA - Map/Directions.
Meet: 9:30am for 10am start.
Upper Snoqualmie Valley Club Ride. Levels: Social and Intermediate.
Ride Distance: 40 miles.
Ride Terrain: Rolling Country with Climbs.

Ride Details:
     This week's ride is on very scenic rural roads through the Upper Snoqualmie Valley.
     Starting from Fall City ride goes uphill via Fish Hatchery Road to Snoqualmie Falls. From the Falls the route continues over logging roads to Ernies Grove for spectacular views of Mt. Si. Mid ride break is in North Bend, home of the Twede's Cafe, famous for it's cherry pie.
     From North Bend the route goes southeast over sparsely traveled roads giving riders a view of the south side of Mt. Si and then returns back through North Bend on the way to Snoqualmie Falls. After a last look at the Falls riders head downhill returning them to the start.
     Since most of the ride is on rural country roads, it is recommended that all bring plenty of snacks and fluids with them for break points.
     For anyone wanting a shorter ride you can skip the section going to the south side of Mt. Si, giving you a 27 mile ride with a longer break in the middle.

May 16th, Sunday, Cedar River Park - Landsburg
Ride Start: Cedar River Park, Renton, WA - Map/Directions.
Meet: 9:30am for 10am start.

Ride Terrain: Flat and Rolling/Hilly.

Ride Details:
     The ride will either be all on trail or on trail with a few country roads added in.
     For thus wanting all on trail, you can stay on the Cedar River Trail which is paved the first 11 miles and hard packed dirt the last four miles (easily navigable with narrow width tires as well as cross/mountain bikes).
     The longer route leaves the trail mid way and takes riders on sparsely traved country roads to Lansburg Park where both groups meet for mid ride snacks and socializing. There are a couple hill climbs on the country road section but nothing very difficult, just fun.

     Starting from Tracy Owen Park we will ride the Sammamish Trail to Woodinville. We leave the trail at Wilmot Gateway Park and head north to Maltby on country roads. From here we will head south on Paradise Lake, Mink and Bear Creek Roads taking us to Avondale Road into Redmond. After a stop at the Redmond Town Center, we will head north again on the Sammamish Trail, past where we left the trail in Woodinville and on to Logboom Park where we started.
     Depending on group choice and the weather we can stop in Maltby at the Snoqualmie Gourmet Ice Cream Shop or at the Redmond Town Center for ice cream cones. Most of the ride is either flat trail or rolling country roads with a little urban cycling mixed in. Bring lunch and snacks for along the way or pick up something at Redmond Town Center near the end of the ride.

     This week's adventure will take members to scenic Thurston County. The ride will start on the Olympia Woodland Trail which connects to the Chehalis Western and Yelm Tenino Trails taking members to Rainier, WA. In Rainier we will stop at the park for lunch before heading back to the start.
     Riders should bring snacks and a lunch with them for mid ride breaks and park lunch. Trails are flat and paved making this a nice fun ride for all members of the family.

     Starting from the Auburn Park n Ride members will ride to Puyallup Farmer's Market in Pioneer Park. Ride is mostly on trail except for a little mixed urban in Puyallup and one optional hill climb. Total distance is ~30 miles. Ride start time 10am.
     For those preparing for the STP or just wanting a few more miles, meet at the Tukwila Community Center and we will ride the Green River and Interurban Trails, meeting the other group on trail in Auburn. Tukwila ride start time is 9am.
     Be sure to bring plenty of fluids and snacks with you for on the trail. Mid ride lunch stop will be at the Puyallup Farmer's Market.

June 11-14, Friday - Monday, Vancouver Canada Outing Weekend
     Looking for an inexpensive cycling tour for these recessionary times? We have you in mind. You Lions Gate Bridge - Stanley Park to North Shore. can cycle on a budget and still have lots of fun in the beautiful city of Vancouver B.C and outlying areas, on June 11-14 weekend. Come for 1, 2, or 3 nights and up to 4 days of cycling you decide how long. Join up with our cycling friends, the Vancouver Bicycle Club, on some of the fun and scenic routes around the city.
     This delightful tour will capture the hearts of cyclists who want a moderate tour of less than 50 miles per day and climbs of 1000 - 1300 ft. Optional routes with steeper climbs are available for those who want greater challenges. Carpool up to Vancouver B.C. and stay at the University of British Columbia’s Gage Towers for “nice” budget accommodations (see below). Early reservations are recommended as this is a popular place to stay for tourists and conventions.

     This is a new fun city route, starting from Mercer Island going west to Alki Beach via the SoDo District. Then going south to Lincoln Park where the route turns east across West Seattle to to the First Avenue South Bridge to Georgetown. From here the route continues northeast over Beacon Hill to the I-90 Bike Trail and back to the start.
     Mid ride break will be at the Alki Bakery.
     Route has two significant climbs, over West Seattle and Beacon Hill. Anyone wanting to skip the hill climbs can ride back the traditional route through the International District saving six miles.

July 10th, Saturday, Private - Tour de Blast
Ride Start: Toutle High School, Longview, WA - Map/Directions.
Tour de Blast - Longview, WA. Meet at: 8am for 8:30am start.
Level: Challenging.
Ride Distance: 82 miles.
Terrain: 7,000' climb.
Lead: ride lead.
Ride Details:
     Will be doing the 82 mile full pull ride to the Johnston Ridge Observatory.
     This ride is 82 miles with over 7000 feet of vertical and is unsupported. For organized ride profile, see Tour de Blast Website.
     Riders will need to be self sufficient and carry food and water as appropriate. The weather will be warm but as it goes into the mountains, riders must be prepared for ANYTHING! If riders choose to come and go a shorter distance the leader will not be available to assist. Leader will finish ride around 4pm.
     Meet at Toutle High School at 8am for 8:30am departure. It is a 2+ hour drive from Seattle to the start.
     Leader permission is REQUIRED to participate! Any interested riders must contact the leader in advance of ride day.

On our return trip we will complete the loop around north Tacoma bringing us back to Thea's Park.

     Meet at Rattlesnake Lake kiosk by lake for a fun ride on the John Wayne Trail towards Hyak.
     Trail is mostly finely packed gravel that has a gentle climb to the tunnel entrance. Mountain bike or hybrid tires are recommended. Bring food and water for mid ride breaks.

     Cycle on Kirkland city streets on BOTH the West and East sides of I-405, crossing over I-405 twice, on foot/bicycle bridges. Then, head south on 132nd Ave NE to Old Redmond Road. Swing by Redmond Town Center for lunch at Top Foods. Take the scenic Sammamish River Trail and Woodinville roads west to Wayne Golf Course. Ride back to Juanita Beach Park going south on 100th Ave NE.
     Bring snacks and fluids for mid ride break. Will stop at Top Foods in the Redmond Town Center for lunch and socializing.

August 8th, Sunday, Issaquah - Renton - Maple Valley
Ride Start: Tibbetts Valley Park, Issaquah, WA - Map/Directions.

Ride Distance: 41 Miles.
Ride Terrain: Rolling/Hilly Country.

Ride Details:
     Starting from Tibbetts Valley Park in Issaquah we will ride south over Cedar Mountain to Maple Valley for mid ride break. After lunch, we will return via the Lake Francis area and Tiger Mountain Road.
     This is a challenging route similar to Gasworks to Edmonds via Blue Ridge so you will have a few hills to climb. Likewise it is a very scenic route that you won't want to miss.
     Bring plenty of snacks and fluids for mid ride picnic lunch and/or snacks along the way.

             Snoqualmie Valley Hospital Event
Tour de Peaks - North Bend, WA. Ride Start: Si View Park, North Bend, WA, Map.
Ride Distance: 6, 20, 30 or 70 miles.
Ride Terrain: Rolling or Rolling/Hilly.
Ride Details:
     All four rides START and END at the festival, and take you through the spectacular scenery of the Snoqualmie Valley with fantastic mountain and valley views.
     After registration, head over to the Mt. Si Senior Center two blocks away for a pancake breakfast sponsored by the Snoqualmie Valley Kiwanis.
     At ride end, hungry and thirsty riders can select from many different food vendors and visit the Rotary Beer Garden!

         For a fun change of pace event Kim and Ray are coordinating SBC member participation at the 7th Annual BIKE for PIE Ride. This is not the normal cycling event, but a 15 mile family or 30 mile challenge ride on Bainbridge Island to island pie stops.
         Members will gather in downtown Seattle for the 8:40am ferry to Bainbridge Island. On island everyone will cycle together to the ride start. The challenge ride starts at 10am and family ride starts at 10:30am. The ride will be moderately paced making it easy for all members. Course is open till 2pm or until everyone is SICK of pie.
         There is a requested $5 (family) or $15 (challenge) per person donation to help cover cost of pies. Click here for details.
         Along with $5/$15 donation, don't forget $7.90 ferry charge, see Washington State Ferry website.
         Advanced registration on Active.com, required. Prices rise from $15 to $20 after August 1st so plan ahead and save $5.
    Extra Ride Details:

         The Wild Horse Wind Farm is 20 miles east of Ellensburg along the old Vantage highway.
         There are tours of the Wild Horse Wind Farm at 10am and 2pm if folks are interested.
         Please advise the leader if you intend to do this ride and if you are interested in the tour. The leader will not be taking the tour as he has done so in the past. We will meet at Wild Horse Wind Farm parking lot at 9:45am if some folks are doing the tour and 10:00am in Kittitas if no one is doing the tour.
         If meeting in Kittitas, the location will be on Main Street between 2nd Ave and 3rd Ave. Burgers and Brew, post ride, at The Tav, 117 West 4th Avenue, Ellensburg, WA.
         Note: The 49 mile route can be shortened ~15 miles by beginning and ending the ride in Kittitas.
         Bring food/snacks. There will be no places along the route to buy anything until Ellensburg.

    Ride Start: Gasworks Park, Seattle, WA - Map/Directions.

    Seattle's Olympic Sculpture Park. Levels: Social and Intermediate.

    August 22nd, Sunday, 2nd Annual Ride to Sunrise Visitor Center
    Ride Start: Mt. Rainier White River Park Entrance - Map/Directions.
    Meet: 9am for 9:30am start.
    SBC Members riding to Sunrise. Levels: AYOP (At Your Own Pace).
    Ride Distance: 30 miles.
    Uphill Ride Distance: ~15 miles with 3000' elevation gain.
    Terrain: Mountainous.
    Lead: ride lead.
    Ride Details:
         For those looking for a ride with incredible scenery, join us for the 2nd annual ride to Sunrise Visitor Center at Mount Rainier National Park. Sunrise is home to the highest elevation paved road in Washington State (6400ft). This year's ride will start at the park's White River Entrance off Hwy 410.
         The ride starts as rolling/climbing for the first 5 miles. Once you pass the White River Campground, the heart of the climb begins. Expect moderate grades of 5 to 8 percent for approximately 8 miles. There are no "wall" type grades on this climb. The last couple of miles are uphill/rolling.
         Bring plenty of water and snacks for on ride refueling as there are no facilities once the heart of the climb begins. Food, water and restrooms are available at the Sunrise Visitor Center. After a short break, enjoy one of the best descents you will ever do on a bicycle.
         The park entrance fee is $15 if you drive. If you decide to park outside the park and ride in, the bicycle entrance fee is $5 per rider. If you decide to drive carpooling is recommended.

    August 28th, Saturday, Bainbridge Island Summer Challenge
    Hours: 7:30am - 4pm.
    BI Summer Challenge Bike Ride. Distance/Terrain: 13.5 or 35 miles - Hilly.

         If you have ridden the Chilly Hilly, you will enjoy riding roughly the same course in the opposite direction in our mild mid-August weather! Ride either 35 mile Summer Challenge or 13.5 mile Family Challenge.
         Ride at your own pace through urban, suburban & country roads. Stop anytime you feel like sightseeing! You are on island time. You will ride along beautiful shorelines with their cool breezes and spectacular views and on country roads through towering forests. Come for the ride; stay the weekend!
         Registration proceeds go to the Bainbridge Island Kiwanis Foundation, for youth oriented charity projects.

         Parking is on the north side of Myrtle Edwards and Elliott Bay Parks, see directions to start. Riders will gather inside park at the Happy Hooker Bait Shop and park restrooms.
         Route starts from Bait Shop and goes south past Olympic Sculpture Park and Seattle Waterfront. From here riders will continue south, then west along the water to West Seattle.
         Bring lunch/snacks for picnic on beach at Alki Statue of Liberty or purchase lunch at the Alki Bakery.

         To celebrate start of Labor Day Weekend members will ride from Gasworks on the Burke Gilman Trail to Woodinville's Redhook Brewery.
         Mid way stop for nourishment and socializing will be at the brewery. For members wanting more miles, they can continue on trail to Marymoor Park and loop back to the brewery to meet up with everyone else (extra 12 miles).
         After lunch all will return together on trail to the start.

         Starting from Mercer Island Community Center we will ride clockwise around South Lake Washington with a quick break at Gene Coulon Park before continuing on to Kubota Gardens for our major mid ride break.
         This is a fun easy route for anyone just wanting a relaxing Sunday afternoon ride.
         Members are encouraged to bring snacks with them for mid ride breaks and lunch break at the gardens.

                 Whidbey General Hospital Foundation Event
    Ride Start: Greenbank Farm, Coupeville, WA.
    Tour de Whidbey - 2007. Meet/Start: 9am at registration desk.
    Ride Distance: 10, 28, 40, 50, 60 or 100 miles.

         Catch the 7am or 7:30am ferry from Mukilteo to Clinton, start riding at 9am, giving everyone time to get to the start and eat a nice stack of pancakes before leaving.

    Ride Start: BPA Trailhead, Federal Way, WA - Map/Directions.

         We will be following portions of the Federal Way - BPA Trail Loop and extending it to reach all the way north to Dash Point Road and all the way south to the new Milton Interurban Trail. Route is a mixture of rolling trail and country/urban roads. Will be doing the route counter-clockwise.
         The route is in the countryside away from stores, so be sure to bring lunch/snacks with you. Mid ride break will be at 5 Mile Lake Park.

         Travel the scenic west side of the valley to Cle Elum and return along the winding Yakima River, or turn off half-way for the alternate 50 kilometer ride. Snacks and sag wagon are provided.

    Ride Start: Tolt-MacDonald Park, Carnation, WA - Map/Directions.

    MacDonald Park Suspension Bridge. Ride Terrain: Off-road - Single Track.

         This is a good ride for beginners. Enjoy a quick get-out-of-town experience without straying too far! King County Parks' Tolt-MacDonald Park, located in Carnation, just 40 minutes from downtown Seattle and a short drive from Redmond, offers a true recreation destination.
         The 574-acre park sprawls across the floodplain of the confluence of the Snoqualmie and Tolt rivers. It has broad lawns and views of the Cascades, with a 500-foot-long suspension footbridge that spans the Snoqualmie River and leads to forested trails.

         This week's ride is on very scenic rural roads along the Snoqualmie and Tolt Rivers.

    Ride Start: Juanita Beach Park, Kirkland, WA - Map/Directions.

    Level: Steady - 13-16 mph.

    Ride Details:
         Join Gail on her weekend Cascade Bicycle Club ride. A holiday ride from Juanita Bay to Enatai Beach Park in south Bellevue. Lunch at La Cocina del Puerco on Main Street in Old Bellevue. This is a cafeteria style Mexican restaurant. The food is authentic and the atmosphere is very casual. Meal prices are under $10.00.
         Pace will be slower on the hills. Ice, Snow or Heavy Rain cancels.

    December 5th, Sunday, Gasworks - Around Ballard/Magnolia
    Ride Start: Gasworks Park, Seattle, WA - Map/Directions.
    Meet: 10:30am for 11am start.
    SBC members at Gasworks Park. Levels: Social and Intermediate.
    Ride Distance: 24 miles.
    Ride Terrain: Mixed Urban with Climbs.
    Lead: ride lead.
    Ride Details:
         Starting from Gasworks Park we will ride along the ship canal to Magnolia and do a quick loop of the clockwise around the bluff ending at Discovery Park where we will cut through the Ballard Locks to Ballard.
         From the locks we will ride to the top of Golden Gardens where we will coast downhill to the beach on our way back to downtown Ballard and then Fremont back to Gasworks Park. Will stop along the way for snacks and refreshments. Bring something with you or purchase something along the way.
